TV Hostess and The Emmys
Tina Fey won three Emmys but lost a purse. Reality TV was embraced on stage but dissed by more than one winner. Here's a look at some of the long, strange night's backstage doings—and sayings...
5:35 p.m.: So, Jeremy Piven, what did you really think of the reality hosts' Emmy opening? "I thought we were being pummeled as an audience. I was confused," the repeat Entourage winner says of the bit he knocked in his acceptance speech. "Like in the movie The Producers, [and] the [scene with] 'Springtime for Hitler'...It was confusing. From Lucille Ball on, TV has been so entertaining, and [this] was a celebration of nothingness." But other than that...
• Piven's won three years in a row now. And while he carries himself with the calm of someone who knows he's already a part of Emmy history, he claims, "This third one was more shocking than the first two."
• It is pointed out to Piven that he's now only two Emmys behind Don Knotts, who won five straight Emmys for The Andy Griffith Show. It is then asked of Piven if he's driven to break Knotts' record for consecutive wins. "To be honest," Piven says, "that's all I'm focused on...There isn't a moment that goes by when I don't think, When am I going to take Don Knotts down?"

Emmys TV Hostess
The first celeb to hit the carpet at Entertainment Tonight and People magazine's party, held at the Disney Concert Hall, hadn't seen any of the Emmys."I have no idea what's going on," Jonathan Schaech confessed, before adding that he was rooting for his Emmy nominated ex-wife Christina Applegate.
"I've been sending a lot of love and support," he said, in regards to her recent breast cancer diagnosis. "She's doing great. She's a real hero."
Although Christina didn't go home with an award, Jeremy Piven got the statue for the third time. So does this mean his head will get huge?
"His head's not going to get bigger," dished Entourage costar Rex Lee. "If anything, I think this humbled him a little bit."
90210's Ryan Eggold stopped to squash the rumors about Shenae Grimes and Jessica Stroup being too skinny. "I see them eating cheeseburgers all day, every day."
Brooke Shields, clad in Badgley Mischka, also had food on the mind when asked what she was looking forward to at the fete. "Billy Idol, a cupcake and a great gift bag!"
The cupcakes she referred to were set up inside at the Crumbs dessert bar, which proved to be just as popular as the regular dinner buffet featuring Spanish cuisine such as paella. And the gift bag guests got were so heavy, people could barely carry it to their cars!
Neil Patrick Harris hightailed it inside with his beau in tow just in time to see Billy take the stage. Newly single Nicolette Sheridan also arrived fashionably late with a girlfriend.
Paula Abdul seemed to be rekindling things with her restauranteur boyfriend JT Torregiani. Although the two broke up in June, JT and Paula were sharing a table together inside the bash.
Also hanging at the soiree: Emmy winner Jeff Probst, Kristen Chenoweth, John Krasinski, Kathy Griffin and Larry Birkhead.

Emmys TV Hostess Backstage
What exactly goes on in the wings backstage at the Emmy Awards? I got a firsthand peek, and this is what I saw:First of all, it is a crowded space. Very crowded.
The five cohosts were jammed into one corner watching the show on a small flat screen. Last-minute touch-ups happen on the spot, like Ryan Seacrest getting his tie straightened by one of the many minions buzzing about. There's a makeup and hair station for anyone who needs some fixin'.
Presenters get to practice their lines just before going onstage with a miniature teleprompter shoved into another corner. I spotted Kate Walsh doin' a read-through after chatting with Wayne Brady.
And what else? Well...
All the way in the back—and way off limits—are the classic Seinfeld diner and Mary Tyler Moore newsroom sets used in the night's show.
And even actors suffer a little stage fright now and then. "I just don't want to trip," Jennifer Love Hewitt worried to her copresenter Hayden Panettiere inside the Architectural Digest green room.
"Walk slowly," Panettiere advised. "Just...walk...slowly."
Just getting to the stage can prove tricky. It's dark and there are so many people with clipboards and headsets all over the place. Security detail will politely ask you to move if you're blocking their view of the celebs.
Also jammed in there is a table with what looks like five official Emmy posters. Every celeb who passes through signs each one. Eva Longoria Parker was the first Housewife to sign away before being joined by Marcia Cross.
A wrangler is on hand to grab swag-happy celebs and lead them down a back staircase to the AEG Ehrlich Presenters Lounge a couple of floors below. I saw Lily Tomlin (still in her Laugh-In costume), Laurence Fishburne, William Petersen and Craig Ferguson browsing the freebies.
Tom Smothers freed up his hands for some shopping by actually stuffing his Emmy into his LeSportsac swag bag.
Alec Baldwin also hit the lounge, but he didn't mean to. "I said the green room," he said to one of his handlers. "But do they have coffee in here?" Of course there was, courtesy of Nespresso.
Oh and get this, Oprah Winfrey was gone within minutes after she opened the show. She changed into some casual clothes and oversize sunglasses and hightailed it to her car. "Thank you, thank you," she repeated as she made her way through the hallway.
I'm told Ms. O said she wanted to enjoy the show at home.

TV Hostess Industry News
As Heidi Klum says, in the world of fashion one day you're in, the next you're out. Lifetime is learning that lesson the hard way.A judge has granted NBC Universal a preliminary injunction that prevents the Weinstein Co. from moving Project Runway from NBCU-owned Bravo to Lifetime next year.
"NBC Universal is pleased that the court granted our motion for a preliminary injunction against the Weinstein Company," the media powerhouse said in a statement.
"The overwhelming evidence demonstrated that the Weinstein Company violated NBC Universal's right of first refusal to future cycles of Project Runway. After hearing all of the evidence, the court issued an order prohibiting the Weinstein Company from taking the show or any spinoff to Lifetime."
"We are disappointed with the court's decision to grant the preliminary injunction against the Weinstein Company.," Lifetime said in response to the ruling.
"It's unfortunate that the people hurt most by this ongoing dispute are the loyal fans of Project Runway. In the meantime, Lifetime will pursue all measures to uphold its valid and binding agreement reached with the Weinstein Company for Season 6 of Project Runway."
The brothers Weinstein, who have stood by the legitimacy of their actions, said in a statement that they will "obviously" appeal the ruling.
"We are glad that the court held that NBC Universal cannot exhibit the program on Bravo and that court required NBC Universal to post a minimum $20 million bond. Obviously we will be appealing and remain committed to our partners," the Weinstein Co. said.
NBCU insists that the producers were contractually obligated to give Bravo right of refusal before shopping the show and any spin-offs to other networks.
A motion to dismiss NBCU's breach-of-contract suit was also denied. A conference has been set for Oct. 15 to schedule a hearing to start fast-tracking the proceedings.
"While it appears that resting Project Runway for a period of time will not cause harm to the show, the court must ensure that is not off the air for an excessive period of time,” stated the injunction order obtained by Television Week.
“Therefore, because this court finds that plaintiffs have also established a balancing of the equities in its favor, the court will enjoined Lifetime from promotion, marketing and exhibition of future cycles of Project Runway. However, this matter will be put on a schedule such that the issues will be resolved through expedited proceedings."
Lifetime had initially planned to roll out the sixth cycle of Runway in November, but recently announced the premiere would be pushed back to January. Nonetheless, production had already begun, the designers chosen and the first guest judge, Lindsay Lohan, booked.
Meanwhile, season five is down to four designers, three of whom will be picked to show collections at Bryant Park (which they've already done, in real life, during New York Fashion Week). The finale airs Oct. 15, although whether it also marks Project Runway's final auf wiedersehen to Bravo now remains to be seen.

TV Hostess and The Emmys
We should have seen this coming. For each movie released, each show produced, and basically anything that happens in Hollywood, critics are all up and about and ready to share a piece of their mind with the general public. So why should the recent Emmy Awards be any different? Interested in what the critics have to say? Here are some of the more interesting bits.As Mary McNamara of the Los Angeles Times said, “If we come away with nothing else from this year’s Emmys, let us all agree that having a host with some experience actually entertaining people is not a luxury, it’s a necessity. The show never quite recovered from its unforgivably bad opener or its less-than-useless hosts.
I would agree if I were a winner and I was not allowed to speak more than 2 seconds – which happened quite a lot this time around.
Frazier Moore of the AP recalled, “There have been boring, listless and otherwise ham-handed Emmy broadcasts among the past 59. Sunday’s Emmycast was all of those things. But ‘The 60th Primetime Emmys’ also seemed an inadvertent homage to the 100 days of the Hollywood writers strike last season, when the shows that were able to continue demonstrated what TV without writers is like.
Still doubt the important role that writers play in Hollywood? Watch the Emmys and doubt no more.
David Zurawik of the Baltimore Sun said, “While it was exciting to see history being made, as entertainment, the telecast emceed by five reality hosts was without a doubt one of the worst in history. It was tedious from the moment Tom Bergeron (’Dancing with the Stars’), Howie Mandel (’Deal or No Deal’), Jeff Probst (’Survivor’), Heidi Klum ( ‘Project Runway’) and Ryan Seacrest (’American Idol’) hit the stage and did 12 minutes of chatter about not having an opening monologue or remarks. The segment ended with two of the reality guys ripping off Klum’s tuxedo to reveal a skimpy showgirl outfit. Yawn. The boredom was momentarily relieved only a couple of times.”
